A CONSERVATOR’S JACKPOT
Being the one assigned to uncover
the Gessel Hoard is like winning the
lottery for conservator Tina Heintges.
Guided by a 3D print from a CT scan,
it still takes months for her to care-
fully and painstakingly free the arti-
facts from the dirt enclosing them:
117 pieces – mostly spirals of varying
sizes. The four-pound Bronze Age
treasure trove was found on the NEL
site not far from Bremen.
