STRATIFICATION
The cliff face of Russell Glacier
near Kangerlussuaq clearly
shows the stratification of
the ice. The high degree of its
transparency betrays its old
age and its originating from
great depth. Younger ice is
more cloudy, for as pressure
increases, air bubbles trapped
in the ice are forced in between
the water molecules.
