IVORY MASK
The carved ivory face was uncovered
by Italian archaeologists of the Uni-
versity of Udine in a storage room of
the lower-city palace of Qatna.
The piece remained unfinished: only
its right eye was inlaid with lime-
stone and an iris of quartz, and no
eyebrow inlays were found.
