KING’S STATUE
The entrance to the royal tomb was
guarded by a pair of basalt statues
who are identified as kings by their
robes and hairdos. Their right hands
holding small bowls call for offerings.
The eyes are inlaid in limestone but
the irises which were carved from a
different kind of rock – possibly lapis
lazuli – are lost.
