is lowered for a first video
survey of Hydrate Ridge.
It is equipped with various
cameras and sensors and
kept at a safe distance from
the seafloor by a powerful
precision winch. The video
signals are transmitted via
fiber optics embedded in the
wire cable it hangs from.
