UNDER THE GUN
For 440 kilometers the Northern
European natural gas pipeline NEL
runs clear across Northern Germany.
Archeologists are hard pressed for
time in their exploration of its 30 m
wide trail. In a field near Banzin in
Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania
they excavate the remains of a
Grubenhaus, or pit-house, from the
Migration Period.
