GIANT ICEBERG
in Disko Bay on Greenland’s
west coast near Ilulissat.
It broke off from the face
of Sermeq Kujalleq glacier
which is considered the most
productive of the northern
hemisphere. Roughly10% of
all icebergs from Greenland
originate here.

>> For shooting icebergs,
we had hired an eskimo
fisherman who took us out
to sea in his boat which was
dwarved by the ice giants.
     Occasionally he got us
closer to them than he felt
comfortable with. Icebergs
are inherently unpredictable
and dangerous: at any time
chunks of ice could come
crashing down without
warning, or thawing and a
resulting offset of balance
could cause the iceberg to
even capsize.
