TREASURED TIMBER
A workman sprays the waterlogged
cedar wood beams and planks which
were preserved in mud at the
bottom of the palace well-room with
water to keep them from drying and
turning to dust. It is imortant to
preserve them because they offer
archaeologists insight into the
carpentry of the epoch for the first
time. Usually, wood perishes without
hardly a trace.
