PHALLIC PHOSSIL
The stalagmite held by German
geologist Wolfgang Stinnesbeck
was recovered from Nai Tucha
cenote near Tulum by cave divers in
2011. It had formed on top of the
hip bone of a Gomphotherium, an
extinct, elephant-like proboscid.
Its oldest calcite strata are 70,000,
its most recent 20,000 years old.
