DRILLING CORES
Sample cores are drilled from the
Nai Tucha stalagmite – now cut in
half – for dating at the University of
Heidelberg in Germany. Its calcite
strata are between 20,000 and
70,000 years old. The mix of gases
and isotopes which were trapped in
tiny inclusions in its growth rings
during its formation also yields
climate data.
